The Big Lie

The more time we spend looking at the proposed code, the more disheartened we are by it. The code team is consistently working to spread misinformation to create the illusion that little or nothing is changing with our "new and improved" zoning.
Today's example is a chart generated by the City that shows equivalent development potential for various zoning districts compared to current zoning. The chart claims that current SF-2 and SF-3 lots allow 1 unit per lot + ADU/Duplex, when the reality is that SF-2 doesn't allow ADU or Duplexes at all, and SF-3 only permits Duplexes on lots larger than 7,000 s.f. (which is not very common in central Austin) and ADU's are only permitted on lots larger than 5,750 s.f. (more common). This mis-states the current situation in about half of Rosedale and ALL of Allandale, for example. Most other central neighborhoods would be similarly misrepresented.
By now we've all heard the City's statement in person and through the media that this new code only really changes the zoning on about 2% of the city, right? Wrong.
Why is the City lying to the citizens of Austin??
